"Christ Carrying the Cross"
Oil on copper
Period II ^ half of the 16th century
Flemish School of Flanders
Excellent state of conservation
measures cm. 20 x 25

This small jewel painted in oil on an oval copper plate is a Flemish work of extraordinary quality.
Its excellent conditions allow us to grasp all its exceptional details and the exquisite painting technique of the Author. Copper paintings of this level can rarely be admired.
The depiction of the suffering face of Christ intent on carrying the Cross is one of the favorite themes of the great Flemish Masters who often portray a protagonist completely bloody and disfigured by pain.
In this case the face of Christ, even with the signs of the outrages suffered, is presented with a sweet and serene expression, but tired and resigned. We find this expression precisely in the analogous works of the Flemish Master of Malines Michael Coxie, a great interpreter of the Flanders school to whom, following the analysis of the pictorial trait and careful comparisons, we feel we can attribute this magnificent copper.

The extraordinary pictorial quality and its excellent condition are absolutely of museum standard.
