"Christ Crucified"
Boxwood sculpture
Tuscany 15th century
Height head-to-foot cm. 32
Excellent condition
Arms replaced in the 18th century
Splendid wooden sculpture depicting Christ crucified, carved in the hardest boxwood, executed with extraordinary stylistic elegance.
We preferred to leave the arms replaced in the 18th century, and evidently anachronistic, but a significant event in its history.
The twisted arms, originally long, straight and horizontal, clash with the purity of the Body that perfectly expresses the essential stylistic traits of the 15th century, but this incongruity of styles gives the sculpture an unusual and very suggestive charm.
The measurements of the work are generous compared to those usually found in sculptures made in this precious incorruptible wood essence.
The state of conservation is excellent.
The face of Christ, although depicted in a static position far from baroque fantasies, takes on an expression of great pain and exceptional expressive force
It is a very interesting work that transmits pleasant sensations even to the touch with a wooden consistency very similar to ivory.
The height from head to toe is 32 cm. and the opening of the arms is 23.
