Cercle of Antoine Coypel (Parigi 1661-1722)

"The Triumph of Galatea"
French School of the 18th century
Circle of Antoine Coypel
(Paris 1661-1722)
Oil painting on canvas
Beautiful carved and gilded frame
canvas size 41 x 32 frame 60 x 52

This elegant work on canvas of the '700 has as its protagonist the beautiful Nymph Galatea, the most famous of the fifty Nereids with whom the Cyclops Polyphemus fell madly in love.
Here we see her sitting with her naked body on a shell-shaped carriage.
She is accompanied by a nymph lying in the shadows next to her, and by a small winged faun that follows her swimming with his hand resting on her shell.
The body of the splendid Sea Creature is prosperous and her nakedness is highlighted by the strong light that envelops her and makes her shine in the center of the painting between the sky and the sea.
The painting, from the French school, follows the models of Antoine Coypel, author of several works with this subject, and is probably an excellently executed preparatory study for a large work.
The canvas has already been professionally cleaned and lined and is in excellent condition.
