Late 16th century
Canvas 115 x 87

Very good condition

A large canvas depicting the Last Supper of Christ with the Apostles, one of the scenes that most stimulated the artistic vein of the great Masters of ancient painting.
In fact, this crucial episode of Christ's earthly life particularly lends itself to being depicted, managing to achieve scenographic effects of great theatricality.
The famous works of Leonardo and Raphael also contributed to fueling the continuous demand for similar works which were well suited to being placed in the rooms of noble palaces.
Our work, which is also very flashy and full of religious meaning, presents the characteristics of that Flemish painting which, while maintaining its traditional peculiarities, receives the severe hieraticity of Spanish Art.
The faces of the protagonists convey a sense of strong drama, creating an atmosphere that, rather than expressing a convivial event situation, preludes tragic events.
The composition highlights the author's desire to make use of a marked chiaroscuro effect to make the scene even more decisive in striking the viewer's gaze.
In fact, the work is certainly very interesting, in an excellent state of conservation and of a nice size, suitable for decorating the wall of a dining room with personality.
