"Praying Virgin"

Emilian master of the early 17th c.

"Praying Virgin"
Emilian master of the early 1600s
Oil on the table
Measures cm. 31 x 43

This delicate representation of a young Virgin in Prayer reflects in an excellent way the refined taste of the Emilian school of the '600.
Oil painted on single-axis poplar panel, it is in very good condition without restorations and repainting
The table is very healthy, without cracks and with a pleasant curve in the shape of a tile. It is a very pleasant and fascinating work painted in an excellent way by an artist of evident Emilian area and represents the prototype of one of the most represented Marian images: the "Praying Virgin" or "Praying Virgin".
The beautiful image is also found in the versions of the "Virgin in adoration of the child" and of the "Virgin with the Sleeping Child" made famous by Reni and Sassoferrato, of which it bears an old attribution on the back of the table.
