This beautiful Flemish canvas of the '600 immediately strikes for the splendid colors with particularly bright tones and accentuated brightness even though it is a scene set at night and indoors.
It is one of the most fascinating and pleasant compositions of ancient painting, depicted in countless variations by the great masters from all over Europe.
Particular attention was paid to the happy moment of the Birth of Christ and the coming of the Shepherds by the best Neapolitan painters of the seventeenth century and by the most famous Flemish authors, these also in previous eras.
Our canvas derives from a famous painting by Paul Pieter Rubens which met with enormous success and was replicated by many minor authors to satisfy the great demand due to its captivating beauty.
The rich chromatism and the precise combination of warm colors, but above all the marked use of chiaroscuro, create an excellent three-dimensional effect giving a remarkable plasticity to the scene.
The excellent state of conservation allows a perfect reading of the painting which has all the requisites to convey pleasant sensations.
