Crucified Christ Wooden sculpture

End of the 16th century

Crucified Christ
Wooden sculpture in lime wood
End of the 16th century
H. 113 x  27 x 18 cm.

Magnificent wooden sculpture depicting the "Crucified Christ" admirably carved in hard lime wood, an essence that offers excellent results of compactness, smoothness and brightness, as well as a splendid golden patina.
The figure is elongated, emaciated from the suffering received and full of drama.
Christ, still alive, turns his gaze upwards to seek the Father for help, with his face disfigured in a grimace of pain. It is evident, in an extraordinary way, the image of the Son of God who transmits the message of his "Passion" to atone for the sins of humanity.
The work is evidently of great sculptural, but above all artistic, level, where the Author does not stop at an academic creation, demonstrating his ability in sculpting wood, but gives life to an authentic "work of art" that astounds and excites the most attentive and prepared spectator.
The lack of arms, rather than creating annoyance, increases the artistic connotation of the work.
The sculpture is in excellent condition with the wooden material perfectly healthy and very compact.
