This magnificent work, depicting the "Christ crowned with thorns" is one of the most successful and evocative works produced by the famous Bolognese master's workshop.
It is a work that reaches an extraordinary expressive force thanks to a pictorial ability of the highest level.
The brushstrokes are vigorous, powerful but of great precision so as to make the suffering structure of the face perfect.
The face of Christ is so alive and expressive that it seems real in a truly impressive way but above all capable of transmitting all the suffering of "God made Man" shocked by pain.
Reni's Ecce Homo immediately achieved enormous success and was replicated in various variations with slight modifications as well as reproduced by minor authors even in later periods.
A large number of his works are located in the most prestigious international museums.
It is probably the most famous Renian creation, so much so that it has become a symbol of Christianity.
Our canvas is undoubtedly of a first-rate pictorial level and was executed in the 1630s by one of the talented students and collaborators working in his famous workshop, many of whom established themselves individually as artists of great value.

The remarkable quality of this work clearly stands out from the countless copies with the same subject and constitutes a valid example of the most beautiful and important Bolognese Baroque painting.

The painting is still on the first canvas on the original oval stretcher and is in excellent condition.
