Imported Lombard chest 17th century
Carved walnut wood
Splendid late Renaissance chest in walnut from Lombardy.
The piece of furniture stands out for its rich and particular carving decoration on its entire front and side structure.
The central panel is sculpted in the classic motif of spiral volutes, the band under the top features a meticulous and elegant floral carving centered by a winged cherub's head, while the entire base is worked with dense leaf decorations also centered by the face of a winged putto.
The caryatids in the guise of warriors on the side uprights supported by feral paws and with figures of odalisques on the rear ones are beautiful.
All in the most typical dictates of the Lombard Renaissance which, although rich and important, remains sober and rigorous.
The state of conservation is excellent with the magnificent patina of time without any restoration or renovation.
