Louis 13 writibg desk with flap and internal drawers

Nord-Italy, first half of 17 th century

Louis XIII desk
"San Filipppo"

Northern Italy
1st half of the 17th century
Solid walnut
L. cm. 122 x H. 90 x depth. 57

Magnificent "San Filippo" writing desk with fold-down front band and part of the top to access a large internal chest of drawers with 10 drawers. It is supported by four twisted legs joined by an elegant curvilinear cruise. Splendid apron on the front and on the sides, richly enlivened.
The furniture is entirely in walnut with the flap front veneered with a typically seventeenth-century geometric decoration.
It is a very rare piece of furniture, an excellent expression of the Louis XIII style which refines the austere lines of the Renaissance with grace and elegance.
The desk is absolutely intact in all its parts, including the important hinges and the perfectly functional snap lock. All the internal drawers are intact without the slightest restoration. It should be remembered that in the 17th century dovetail joints were not yet in use and the drawers were assembled and fixed with nails. For a piece of furniture from this period, the state of conservation is truly extraordinary, so much so that it can be exhibited in any museum. We offer it to the most demanding collectors who want furniture that combines beauty with absolute integrity.
