Madonna with Child

Genoese school of the 18th century

Madonna with Child
Polychrome and gilded wooden sculpture
Genoese school
1st half of the 18th century
Measurements: H. 91 x 39 x depth. 20
Excellent condition

Wooden sculpture of exceptional beauty, carved in a very fine way, painted in polychromy, with golden finishes.
It depicts a splendid full-length Virgin holding the Child with her right hand.
She wears an important crown on her head and holds the scepter in her left hand, symbols of her royalty and her power.
The Child Jesus observes the sphere that represents his dominion over the world, and with open arms he offers His Graces and His Mercy to those who have recourse to Mary's protection.
It is an extraordinary eighteenth-century work of the best Genoese sculptural tradition, which had the most significant exponent in the great Master Anton Maria Marigliano.
In fact, all the characteristics that distinguish it are evident, from the incredible movement to the perfection in the rendering of the anatomical details, in addition to the lively colour, embellished by the extensive gilding.
The work is in an excellent state of conservation.
