Pair of splendid jewels depicting two magnificent perspectives of the "Bacino di San Marco" seen from the waters in front of the Riva degli Schiavoni.
They are two glimpses that come together perfectly forming a single view that from the Palazzo dei Dogi reaches the Island of San Giorgio, describing a sequence of monuments that overlook the Lagoon. You can see the columns of the square, the bulk of the bell tower and the domes of the basilica, to arrive at the tip of the customs house with the Salute church.
The author, who signs himself on the prow of the typical Venetian fishing boats, is one of the most valid landscape painters working in Venice between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 1900s. His paintings are of exquisite workmanship, the brushstroke is very fine, and his depictions, always referring to the great Masters of the 18th century, are of great elegance.
These two small masterpieces are two excellent examples of his pictorial skills, showing a personal stylistic perfection in the reinterpretation of eighteenth-century Venetian painting.
The works are complete with the original frames which in turn reflect the rocaille taste, revisited in a manner consistent with the characteristics of the paintings.

GIUSEPPE PONGA
Chioggia (Venice) 1856 - Venice 1925
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast oeuvre ranges over various artistic fields, ranging from mural and easel painting to miniature and watercolor, always retracing the manner and themes of the eighteenth-century models by G. B. Tiepolo and F. Look. He received prestigious commissions, such as the decorations of the Palace of the Parliament of Budapest and some rooms of the Royal Palace of Venice. He also painted the famous ten panels in eighteenth-century style that adorn the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri", a historic Venetian venue that overlooks Piazza San Marco directly.
His paintings are very pleasing and their hard to find on the market makes them much sought after.
