Pair of views of the Gulf of Naples.

Posillipo School, 19th century

Pair of views of the Gulf of Naples.
Oil painting on canvas
Posillipo School
Mid 19th century
Openwork and gilded frames.
The canvas measures 42 x 25 frames 56 x 40
Very good condition.

Splendid pair of small paintings on canvas representing two views of the old town of Naples with a view of the Gulf.
They are two jewels made in the 19th century by an artist belonging to the Posillipo school.
This current of able-bodied painters imposed itself from the 1820s onwards to satisfy the strong demand of wealthy British and American tourists wishing to take home the souvenir of their trip.
These precious works, which reproduced in an academic way the panoramas of the magnificent city, were executed in small dimensions to facilitate their transport.
Our two canvases offer the most representative view of Naples captured from two different angles with the incomparable landscape of its gulf.
