Excellent condition

This splendid pair of paintings on canvas depicts two iconic views of Italy's most important and famous cities, admired throughout the world for the extraordinary historicity of Rome and the unparalleled dreamlike beauty of Venice.
The monumental St. Peter's Square, with its semicircular colonnades, the ancient Egyptian obelisk, and the Basilica dei Papi, is paired with the surreal image of St. Mark's Basin, its magnificent, unique architecture reflecting in the waters of the lagoon.
The two views are executed with an excellent pictorial technique that highlights the great beauty of both the sunny Vatican square and the varied spectacle of Venetian palaces.
The artist is a skilled late-19th-century landscape painter who depicts the architectural features of famous monuments with great finesse and remarkable perspective, using an 18th-century style to enhance their charm.
The canvases were evidently created to satisfy the requests of foreign visitors to Italian cities, who wanted a memento of their "Grand Tour."

The works are in excellent condition, complete with beautiful lacquered frames with gilded profiles and carved corner decorations.
