This elegant, typically sixteenth-century composition describes the episode from the Gospel of Saint Luke, which sees the little Jesus presented in the Temple of Jerusalem. The scene is truly attractive: the Virgin lifts her Son with two hands and offers him to Simeon. While a bewildered Joseph stares wide-eyed at the severe figure of the bearded old man, the Child withdraws in fear, turning towards the Mother who tenderly observes him protectively. Not far from the group, a young woman participates in the solemn ritual, who tradition indicates as the midwife who helped Mary during her birth. The work is of excellent workmanship and has the unmistakable characteristics of Venetian painting of the 16th century. The references to the famous compositions of Giovanni Bellini are evident, who with his extraordinary pictorial language influenced all the Venetian artists of the 16th century. The palette used is characterized by exclusively warm colors in yellow, ocher and brown shades, with the sole exception of the blue cloak of the Virgin. The work has already been cleaned and perfectly relined and is in excellent condition. It is complete with a beautiful carved and gilded frame.
