Renaissance inlaiden Chest

Tuscany, 16th century

Renaissance Chest
Tuscany, 16th century
Walnut, ivory inlays
Dimensions: W 46 x D 35 x H 22 cm
Excellent condition

This magnificent and rare walnut chest dating to the late 16th century displays the most elegant stylistic features of the Italian Renaissance.
Its austere lines, accentuated by the four feline paws supporting it, are softened by a delicate ivory scrollwork decoration that extends across its entire surface, within richly framed panels.

The proportions of this precious piece are splendid, suited to its function as a courtesy chest, where valuables and letters were stored in the internal compartments.

It is in excellent condition for its age, with no external or internal missing or replaced parts.
The original 16th-century lock is still in perfect working order.
The patina of time is intact.
