Still life

Gaspare Lopez 18th century

Gaspare Lopez (Naples 1677-Florence 1732)
"Still life with flower pots"

 Oil painting on canvas
Canvas format 58 x 44 frame 73 x 60
Excellent condition, clean and relined.

Referring to the Neapolitan school, the still life in question has close stylistic similarities with the works of Gaspare Lopez, protagonist of 18th century Neapolitan painting in the wake of Andrea Belvedere and French florists.
The work documents very well the expressive qualities of the painter who is able to create a sequence of similar compositions without falling into the banality of the illustrative replica, demonstrating a descriptive sensibility of considerable visual impact. In comparison, we can cite Still Life with Flowers, already present on the Milan antique market and published by Alberto Cottino (see Cottino, 2010, p.16, fig. 16).
