The Resurrection of Lazarus

Venetian school late 17th century

The Resurrection of Lazarus
Venetian school
Late '600
Oil painting on canvas
Canvas measures 91 x 70 frame 109 x 94

The work is in good condition with an old relining and a beautiful antique gilded frame.

The painting is very interesting and the scene described emotionally involves the viewer.
The sense of dismay and wonder can be read in an exceptional way on all the faces and in all the attitudes of the characters who animate the painting.
The gaze inevitably turns to the center of the work attracted by a strong light and by the movements of the protagonists.
Here Christ is depicted in a solemn pose facing Lazarus who is positioned low at the end of the canvas in a dark, almost ghostly area.
The Author manages to give the feeling of a return to life directly from the Underworld.

It is a work of great character, painted straight away with quick brushstrokes and with a great ability to create the illusion of movement.
