Triumph of Bacchus
Oil painting on canvas
Flemish school
Beginning of the 1600s
Canvas size 96 x 71 frame 105 x 80
The painting is in good condition

Intriguing and beautifully sized painting depicting drunken Bacchus lying on a gilded chariot.
The God of libations and pleasure is accompanied by satyrs holding wine cups and is pulled by two leopards led by a group of cherubs and young fauns. The scene is characterized by the naked bodies of the protagonists who stand out full of light and express an atmosphere of festive joy, dominated by an immoderate intoxication in the sign of wine.
The painting is a hymn to a carefree life, devoted exclusively to joy and celebrations drowned in unbridled libations.
