A magnificent view of the Grand Canal flowing into St. Mark's Basin, between the famous noble palaces and the sunlit silhouette of the Basilica della Salute.
The large canvas depicts a spectacular sequence of typically Venetian buildings reflected in the light and shadows of the canal's glimmering waters, contrasting with the bright blue sky.
The work displays a striking effect of light and is distinguished by the meticulous depiction of all the architectural details that distinguish the buildings along the Grand Canal.
The artist did not sign the painting and is considered one of the finest exponents of 19th-century Lombard-Venetian view painting.
The canvas is housed in its splendid contemporary gilded frame and is in excellent condition, still in its original canvas.
