The painting, of exceptional finesse, depicts a wide-ranging view of the Giudecca Canal with the Church of the Gesuati.
It’s one of Francesco Guardi’s favorite images of Venice, and he painted it in various compositions and different perspectives.
The most famous is probably the canvas exhibited in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin. (See detail last photo)
The great pictorial technique of the painting published here places him directly among the reproductions made in his famous workshop.
The conditions of the work allow the complete reading of every detail of the splendid view, and to understand the extraordinary miniaturistic ability of the author in describing the scene.
