Venice, the Square and the San Marco Basin
Venetian master of the 19th century

Oil painting on canvas
Golden frame
Canvas 73 x 60
Frame 86 x 74

Very good condition

The painting depicts a magnificent view of the place that represents the heart and soul of the city, the center of gravity of the Lagoon.
The most beautiful square in the world offers the fantastic view of the San Marco Basin with its wonderful scenery.
The panorama is symmetrical,
like the fruit of a theatrical fantasy.
On the left side of the canvas are depicted the Doge's Palace, the column holding the winged Lion of the Evangelist and the Island of San Giorgio with the Basilica and the bell tower.
On the right side the Marciana National Library, the column of San Todaro and the island of Giudecca.
In the center of the canvas, a bright horizon between the two islands is lost endlessly.
The square, delimited by the size of the two famous buildings, is a swarm of typically Venetian characters.
Among other things, in addition to the inevitable traditional costumes, we can see gendarmes, friars and beggars.
A row of gondolas are docked on the Riva degli Schiavoni and a splendid sailing ship heads towards the Grand Canal.
The painting is of excellent quality and the Author, certainly valid, describes buildings, monuments, characters and boats in a very convincing way.
The work presents all the characteristics of the most classic Venetian painting and must be placed in the finest nineteenth-century production, which maintained the qualitative standard of the Masters of the "Golden Age".
The painting is in excellent condition. The canvas was applied on a wooden board. The golden frame is from the 19th century and has been restored.
